Priti P.2023-05-31Care One Hospice provided the most exceptional care to my mother in her final weeks of life. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones and the incredible team at Care One was by her side for the last 48 hours. I first contacted the agency weeks before based on the positive Yelp experiences. At that time I was just gathering information but luckily came into contact with a gem of a social worker, a true empath Dale. Dale was so helpful, understanding and truly compassionate & caring in the way he spoke. I immediately felt a sense of ease in speaking about hospice and he understood the difficult journey for my family. I found true comfort and guidance for which I am eternally grateful. When we did officially enroll 2 weeks before my mom's passing, Dale was available to speak with me late one evening and immediately helped the enrollment process such that she was enrolled by the next morning. Then the nurses visits began. Every single nurse that visited in the weeks before my mom's passing was kind, compassionate and thorough in giving updates. They informed us regularly and followed up efficiently on care needs that included DME such as a bed/oxygen tank, meds, incontinence care etc. They always had incredible follow through and did this with such dignity and grace. A HUGE thank you to Fiona, Honeyfaith, Lilly, Norma, Joyce and anyone else I may have forgotten. You were by my mother's side in her most vulnerable moments and we are so thankful for your kind compassionate hearts. I relied on Care One and Dale once again after her passing in arrangements for cremation with the mortuary. We had some difficulties in handling things and Dale stepped in and moved things along. Enrolling in hospice is such a personal and often painful journey and our interactions with Care One made everything so much more bearable. They are an incredibly kind, compassionate care service and I would highly recommend, both as a physician and daughter. I am sorry if this is the path you may have to take, but with this wonderful care team you will feel heard and never alone.

Dale Shagrin consulted with me recently about my mother’s situation. He is absolutely the best at what he does. He is so knowledgeable about everything. I learned more from Dale in an hour than I have learned in the last four years concerning my mother. He is so caring ,genuine and compassionate towards the family and their loved one. A few years back, my sister and I thought it was time for Assisted Living for our mother. We spent a lot of time calling facilities, making appointments, going from place to place, getting information, getting quotes, and asking what we thought were all the right questions. After all that leg work, we were left worn out and with our heads spinning. We had to jump through a lot of hoops for scheduling, quotes seemed very high, and we just didn’t feel comfortable enough to make a decision. Luckily, we did not have to as our mother still seemed to be doing OK on her own.Fast forward to October of this year (2023) and it was definitely time for this next step for our mother, but my sister and I were overwhelmed at the prospect of doing the search all over again. In comes The Assisted Living Specialist. I had heard of this company through the grapevine and that they do all the legwork for you with no money out of pocket. So, why not give it a shot?We were immediately put in touch with Janette. It was immediately clear that she knew this business inside and out. Completely familiar with the area we were looking at and, after a brief assessment of our mother’s health & needs, had several recommendations of facilities that would best fit her needs. And beyond physical and social needs, the places Janette recommended also fit very well within our budget. And these last few points are huge. When we first looked, we were looking at places that were huge (possibly harder for our mom to navigate) and had tons of amenities (nothing wrong with amenities, but some maybe unnecessary resulting in exorbitant prices). After getting to know us and our mom a bit more, Janette recommended facilities that were much better suited for her; smaller, more homey places, with residents similar to my mom’s care needs and age. And, again, well within our budget.So we toured several of these places Janette selected for us, had lunch at a few, met with all the right people, met staff, met other residents, and all this was coordinated by Janette. She just told us when to be there and we were taken care of immediately. It was all handled very efficiently and very quickly. We were torn between a few places, but Janette discussed pros and cons with us and we were able to make a decision that was comfortable for ALL of us and our budget.And as for budget and asking all the right questions as mentioned above, Janette was a godsend in that area too. When my sister and I first toured on our own, we were unaware of certain considerable fees charged by these facilities. Some things are not put front and center, but are kind of left to after the fact when you are almost ready to sign on the dotted line. Janette was aware of ALL of this and everything, every penny, was front and center. And I feel the rates we got by utilizing this service may be better than if we were going it alone.So Mom is moved in, she is happy, she is thriving, and my sister and I are breathing a sigh of relief that this is done and it was pretty easy and painless thanks to Janette and The Assisted Living Specialist.

I discovered The Assisted Living Specialist through the skilled nursing facility in Burbank where my father was staying. Initially, I had the pleasure of meeting Belinda Dolinsky, and later on, I spoke with her associate Janette over the phone.Belinda provided me with invaluable education about the caregiver industry, enlightening me on aspects I was previously unaware of. It was interesting to learn that both Belinda and Janette entered this business due to Janette's experience with an ill parent who required a board and care. They had to navigate the system independently, conducting research and handling everything on their own. Now, they share their knowledge with families like mine who are going through a similar process.Understanding the intricacies of this industry can be challenging. There are numerous homes to choose from, and it's difficult to discern which ones will be effective. Thankfully, Belinda and Janette were of great assistance. They offered me several of the best homes for my father to tour and meet with. They took the initiative to contact them, informing them about my dad's situation, and I proceeded from there.Belinda and Janette stressed the importance of meeting, interviewing, and sitting down with the actual caregivers in order to determine the best match for your loved one. They emphasized that while some homes may have impressive marketing representatives who make grand promises, it's the caregivers themselves who truly matter. I am truly grateful for their attentive listening, advice, and recommendations. They only endorse assisted living homes that they know provide exceptional care.This knowledge helped put my mind at ease. They explained their criteria for selecting agencies and how they evaluate them. Belinda referred me to a wonderful care home, which turned out to be absolutely fantastic. Belinda and Janette, the home we chose for my father, exceeded our expectations.
